3 Chairs 2 Cubes - Actors
Welcome to the 3 Chairs 2 Cubes Actors page! Below, you’ll find a little bit of information about acting in 3C2C. Acting in 3C2C is a great opportunity for a new actor to get started at Brown or an experienced actor to try his or her hand working on new material, with the playwright in the room. Since rehearsal calendars are worked around cast schedules, this is also a chance for an actor who might not be able to make the full commitment of a downstairs space PW show. Each actor is cast in one of the plays being produced in the festival, and each play is between 5-20 minutes long. Actors can expect to rehearse somewhere between 10-20 hours a week.
Most importantly: auditions. Auditions for 3 Chairs 2 Cubes take place September 30th 5-9pm in Wilson 203 and October 1st 7-11pm in Wilson 302. Actors will have a chance to audition for each director (or they can choose to audition for only a few of the plays).
Auditions will be of scenes and monologues from the plays. At the auditions, we’ll have copies of all the scripts, synopses of all the plays, and copies of the audition sides. Once you’re ready, you go inside (with a partner, if you’re doing a scene), and read for the directors. They might ask you to come back and read another part, or they might give you some direction and ask you to read again.
At the end of your auditions, we’ll ask you to fill out a “preference card,” listing the plays in the order in which you’d most like to appear in them. In case we get two directors who both want you, this will be how we decide who gets you. For that reason, it is very helpful to us if you fill out the card completely (don’t just say: “I don’t care, I love them all!”). The preference card is kept completely confidential - the directors never know your preference unless a conflict arises and the card needs to be used.
